Milwaukee, the Bloody Mary and
Brunch. Many Cities do brunch. Many cities are famous for pies, beans,
lobster, and crab cakes. But Milwaukee
has Bloody Marys and Brunch. Many might
argue for Old Fashions, Fish fries, Beer and Cheese curds. They would not be wrong. I do how ever feel that these time honored
traditions are reflective of what it means to be in Wisconsin. Milwaukee has the Bloody Mary… perhaps the
burger.
In keeping with tradition, this
Sunday was brunch. It was one of the
first nice days and was actually held outside.
(Under heat lamps of course) My pretzel bun mini burger trio went
perfectly with my tequila laced Bloody Mary.
Since we were at Cafe Benelux we
had to start the meal with the tater tots.
These are no ordinary tots these bacon, blue cheese stuffed delights are
always a great idea. They are served in
a little basket with a spicy dipping sauce.
Somehow they just seem to disappear.
Oh so good.
The charcuterie board may be listed
in the appetizers but it is a meal. Normally
I go for a pannenkoeken if I can get someone to share it with me. The Brussels
is one of my favorites. At one point
breakfast poutine was on the menu but it has long since disappeared. I keep hoping it will come back some day.
Benelux would not be Benelux if it
wasn’t for the beer menu. This BOOK has
anything you could ever want as a beer connoisseur or a novice. Sorted by types and regions, drafts,
flavors, and table bottles you can find something new every time. The beer book is over 50 pages of
exploration. There is even a store so
you can take what you find home with you.
Not a beer drinker, no
problem. There is an extensive mix drink
menu, plenty of wine and a full bar. You
will not be hungry or thirsty at this Milwaukee tradition.
This great time was followed by a
nap. It is Sunday afternoon after all.
